Nuclear: the sector will be ready for new EPRs, assures EDF – franceinfo

A call from the foot of the nuclear industry to the executive. EDF underlined, Monday, November 8, the progress of its industrial excellence plan in nuclear power and assured that the sector “will be ready” in the event of orders for new EPRs in France. After the drifts of the Flamanville EPR site (Manche), EDF had launched a plan comprising 25 commitments, presented last year and intended to restore the “confidence” in the sector.

“We have 22 of the 25 engagements that attacked the deployment phase”, detailed Alain Tranzer, general delegate for industrial quality and nuclear skills at EDF, providing an update on this project during a press conference. This former PSA automotive group is responsible for implementing EDF’s “excell” plan, which must apply to the entire French industry.

The latter is hoping for orders for new reactors in France, a wish that could come true soon. The executive must take a decision before the end of the year on this issue, speeding up its schedule after the recent publication of the report by the RTE electricity network manager underlining the economic advantage of nuclear power. “The industry is changing and it will be ready”, said Alain Tranzer, who assured that new EPRs could be delivered on time and on schedule, unlike that of Flamanville.

“Our companies have prepared themselves and they think they are ready in particular for new projects”, added Alain Gauvin, Managing Director of Onet Technologies and one of the managers of GIFEN (Group of French nuclear energy manufacturers). “To consolidate these achievements, we need new projects, new contracts, over the long term”, he stressed.
