Alstom wins 876 million euros contract in Egypt

(Reuters) – Alstom announced on Monday that it had won a € 876 million contract with the Egyptian National Tunnel Authority to modernize line 1 of the Cairo metro, the oldest line in Egypt.

“We are honored to play a role in the development and modernization of the Egyptian urban network,” said Henri Poupart-Lafarge, CEO of Alstom, in a statement.

This agreement will cover the supply of 55 trains and maintenance services for eight years.

Maintenance work will be carried out at the Cairo depot and managed locally, creating long-term employment opportunities, Alstom said.

The metro will be designed and manufactured in France, at the Alstom site in Valenciennes Petite-Forêt.

The other French sites concerned are Le Creusot, Villeurbanne and Toulouse.
