WARSAW. Poland is increasing security on its border with Belarus, which is also the eastern border of the European Union. This was preceded by reports that a large group of migrants had set out for the border crossing with Poland.

According to the internet portal Onet.pl, most of them are Kurds from northern Iraq, who were transferred to the Polish-Belarusian border from Minsk in the past 24 hours.

The crisis staff will meet

The videos show that the immigrants are accompanied and coordinated by “soldiers and officers of the Belarusian border guard,” Onet.pl said.

In connection with the latest developments on the Polish-Belarusian border, a meeting of the Crisis Management Staff will take place on Monday at 1 p.m.

The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leaders of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the Ministry of National Defense and representatives of relevant services, said government spokesman Piotr Müller.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned against provocations in connection with the bombing on the border with Belarus, added Onet.pl.

They also sent an army to the border

According to the AP, a spokeswoman for the Polish border guard, Ewelina Szczepanska, said that reinforcements from the border guard, police and army had been sent on Poland’s border with Belarus.

She added that the videos published online show how crowds of migrants are heading for the Kužnica crossing in northeastern Poland.

Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced on Twitter that “more than 12,000 soldiers are on duty at the border.” He added that together with other components “we are ready to defend the Polish border”.

Polish security spokesman Stanislaw Zaryn also posted a video on the social network Twitter, which shows hundreds of people walking along the road between forests. “Very disturbing information from the border,” Zaryn commented.

Belarusians are threatening

Since the summer, Poland has been under an increasing influx of migrants from the Middle East and Africa who are trying to enter the EU. Poland is blocking these attempts or sending those crossing the border back to Belarus.

Warsaw and the EU claim that this is an organized action by the Belarusian government aimed at destabilizing the bloc in retaliation for the Western sanctions imposed in connection with the controversial presidential election, the brutal suppression of subsequent protests and the persecution of the Belarusian opposition.

The Polish Border Guard has repeatedly reported on incidents and threats against members of the Polish security forces by Belarusian forces.
