There are more and more patients and there are few of us, more than 1,300 doctors call for vaccination – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA. There are few of us, there are more and more patients for that and we are no longer in power. These words were reported to the public on Monday in front of the infectious pavilion of the University Hospital Bratislava (UNB) in Kramáry by medical staff from hospitals all over Slovakia. They also presented a public call to promote vaccination against the disease Covid-19.

A letter prepared mainly by the head of the Internal Department of the Hospital with the Polyclinic Považská Bystrica Milan Kulkovský and signed by more than 1,300 paramedics was read in front of the media by infectologist Peter Sabaka.

In the letter, doctors address those people who are hesitant to get vaccinated because they have concerns or question Covid-19.

The letter also said that younger and younger patients ended up in hospitals, who had to be separated from their families for weeks, and many eventually died unnecessarily, despite the efforts of medical staff. Doctors also talked about providing health care to patients other than COVID.

Due to the gradual postponement of surgical procedures, people who did not even have Covid-19 are among the victims of the pandemic. Most of all these deaths are avoidable, vaccination can prevent them. According to Sabak, people do not have to worry about side effects. Rather, they should keep in mind that the worst is yet to come, and the only effective prevention today is vaccination.

“We, paramedics working in covid departments all over Slovakia, ask you for our trust and help. We have the consequences of covid every day before our eyes. People with a difficult course die in our hands. Vaccination is not a political issue, it is primarily a medical issue, ”Slovak health professionals appealed to people.

Sabaka repeated that vaccines they are safe and trusted by healthcare professionals, so almost all doctors are vaccinated in covid wards.

UNB Director Roland Schaller supported the doctors. At the same time, the media informed that they currently have 157 patients, 12 of whom need a connection to artificial lung ventilation. He also added that patients from other regions are already coming to them. The call was also supported by the Minister of Health Vladimir Lengvarsky personally.

He appreciated the approach and work of all health professionals in Slovakia. “Vaccination alone is what can get us out of this pandemic,” he added.
