Germany reports new record since pandemic begins – TVNOVINY.sk

The seven-day incidence, ie the number of confirmed cases of infection with a new type of coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants per week, reached a new record in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic and was 201.1 on Monday. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) informed about it, the DPA agency stated.

The previous record of 197.6 was set at the height of the second wave of the pandemic on December 22, 2020. Unlike last year, however, many people are now vaccinated, even in the group of particularly vulnerable people over 65, emphasizes the DPA. Experts therefore assume that the health care system will cope with a larger number of newly infected this time, as vaccination protects against the severe course of COVID-19. The weekly incidence in Germany has been rising steadily for several weeks now: it reached 191.5 on Sunday, 154.8 a week ago and 63.8 in October.

In the past 24 hours (as of Monday at 4.15 am CET), health authorities in Germany have reported to RKI 15,513 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection. On Friday, a record 37,120 were infected since the beginning of the pandemic, just a week ago there were 9658.
Another 24 coronavirus deaths were reported in Germany in 24 hours, ten more than a week ago.

The number of hospitalized patients per 100,000 population over seven days – the most important parameter for a possible tightening of anti-pandemic measures – was 3.91 on Friday. For this indicator, it should be taken into account that hospitalizations are sometimes reported with a delay. Even for large regional differences, there is no national limit from which the situation is considered critical. The previous maximum was approximately 15.5 at last Christmas time.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, tests in Germany have detected 4,782,546 SARS-CoV-2 infections. The number of people who died on or with the covid rose to 96,558.
