POLICE – A police officer was attacked with a stabbing weapon near the central police station in Cannes, announced the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin this Monday, November 8 in the early morning. The attacker was “neutralized” by the police present on the spot.

“The circumstances of the attack are being clarified,” said the mayor of Cannes David Lisnard on Twitter, adding that no deaths had been reported. Police sources told AFP that the individual said he was acting “in the name of the prophet”. The terrorist trail is being considered, the same source said. The Nice judicial police are seized.

According to Nice morning, the facts took place around 6:30 am. Several officers were in a police vehicle near the central police station when the driver was targeted.

The attacker opened the door of the police vehicle and stabbed a first policeman “in the chest”, before going around the vehicle to attack “the captain”, said a police source. to AFP. Another policeman then seriously injured him and his prognosis is threatened.

The policeman targeted was not injured, thanks to his bulletproof vest, then said the Minister of the Interior. The attacker was “seriously” shot and wounded by a second policeman and his prognosis is threatened.

Two other police officers were slightly hit by shrapnel from the colleague, according to police sources.

According to one of these sources, the attacker is a 37-year-old Algerian national unknown to the police and intelligence services.
