MEXICO CITY – Dutchman Max Verstappen of the Red Bull team triumphed at the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday, the eighteenth event of the MS F1 motorsport series. The second came Brit Lewis Hamilton at the finish line on the Mercedes, the third was Verstappen’s teammate and the home Mexican Sergio Perez.

For Verstappen, it was the ninth victory of the season, the 19th in his career, and he increased his lead over defending champion Hamilton to 19 points at the top of the standings.

Shortly after the start, it was confirmed that pole position on the circuit in Mexico may not be as advantageous as on others. In front of the Mercedes Hamilton and Bottas, who started from the first place, the third Verstappen was already in the fourth corner. Shortly afterwards, Ricciardo crashed into Bottas, they both had to go into the pits, and the Finn fell to the last place. The race ended in the first round for Cunoda and Schumacher, who paid for the collision with Oconom.

Verstappen took the lead in front of Hamilton and Perez. Hamilton was the first to cross in the 30th lap and returned to the track in fifth place. Verstappen also completed a problem-free pit stop, which was second after returning to the track, but the temporary leader Perez headed to the pits shortly afterwards. After the 40th lap, Hamilton lost 10 seconds to Verstappen. Bottas gradually improved his position, but in the 42nd round he was slowed down by a long stop in the pits.

After the 60th round, Verstappen was the leader with a 16-second lead over Hamilton, on whom the third Perez was still grinding his teeth, who wanted to please the home fans. Bottas was deep in the second ten of the standings, but in Mercedes they tried to get the fastest lap, thus taking at least a point for Verstappen. In the end, the Finn changed twice and finally won the fastest lap. Verstappen guarded the victory without any problems and Hamilton did not lose his position, who kept the second place ahead of Perez.
