Iran condemned the attack on the Iraqi prime minister and accused the USA of destabilization – SME.sk

TEHRAN. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack on the headquarters of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kazimi on Sunday and indicated that the United States was responsible for it.

The ministry also called for “caution to prevent (further) attacks on Iraq’s security and development.” The AFP agency informed about it.

“Such incidents are in the interests of those who have violated Iraq’s stability, security, independence and territorial integrity over the past 18 years,” Said Khatibzade, a spokesman for Iran’s diplomacy.

“They have tried to achieve their sinister regional goals by creating terrorist groups that carry out anti-state activities,” a ministry spokesman told the US, which, according to AFP, invaded Iraq in 2003 and overthrew dictator Saddam Hussein, triggering years of sectarian conflict in region.

The Iraqi government said on Sunday morning that Prime Minister Mustafa Kazimi had survived an assassination attempt by an armed drone.

Seven security guards suffered injuries, while the prime minister suffered a minor cutting hand injury, the AP agency reported, referring to two unnamed Iraqi officials.

It was not immediately known how many drones attacked. The AP reported that at least two drones had attacked the prime minister’s residence in Baghdad’s Green Zone, while AFP sources said three drones had been shot down by two security forces.

The assassination attempt, which has not yet been reported, came at a time when Iraqi political parties are negotiating the formation of parliamentary coalitions following the publication of the preliminary results of the October October elections to the Iraqi parliament.
