Covid-19: A major British discovery on the dangerousness of the virus – Tunisie Numérique

Laboratories around the world are scrambling to find the keys to victory over the Covid-19, which in fact leaves all over Europe. It seems that British scientists have succeeded in identifying a decisive gene in the understanding of the dangerousness of the virus.

They isolated a gene that doubles the risk of dying from coronavirus. This major discovery helps to understand why some are more vulnerable than others. Eventually we could develop therapies that target these fragile people.

It is said that nearly 60% of people of South Asian origin have the gene in their heritage, researchers from the University of Oxford said on November 5, 2021. They indicate that this advance helps to understand the rise in deaths in some British communities and the devastation of the coronavirus in India.

“(The study) shows that how the lung responds to infection is critical. This is important because most of the treatments have focused on changing the way the immune system responds to the virus.“Said Professor James Davies, co-director of the study, reports Reuters.

Note that the conclusions of this study were published in the journal Nature Genetics.
