Valtteri Bottas on pole at the Mexican Grand Prix – F1only.fr

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas took pole position this Saturday at the Mexican Grand Prix, the Finn ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull.

Behind, Sergio Perez, Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, Charles Leclerc, Yuki Tsunoda and Lando Norris complete the top ten on the grid, but penalties will be applied to some drivers (Norris and Tsunoda), which means that Vettel and Raikkonen will enter the top ten.

Stroll in the wall

From the first minutes of the session, Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll hit the wall in the last sector of the circuit. The Canadian is doing well, but his car was badly damaged. Premature end of the session for him, but that will not change his situation because he had to start the race anyway from the back of the grid this weekend. The race management had to wave a long red flag following this crash in order to repair the damaged tire barriers.

Penalties on the grid

Several drivers were penalized on the starting grid of the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend. Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, Esteban Ocon and Lando Norris all received a new fourth engine in Mexico City, meaning they will start the race from the back of the grid on Sunday.

Another penalized driver: Briton George Russell. The Williams driver received a new gearbox in the back of his car this Friday evening and will therefore have to drop five positions on the starting grid on Sunday.

Heavy blow for Alpine

At Alpine, Fernando Alonso failed to get into Q2 this Saturday, the Spaniard signed the sixteenth fastest time despite the help of his teammate who offered him aspiration in the main straight, especially because he knew he was penalized on the grid.

This Sunday, the two Alpine riders will start outside the top ten in Mexico City, which could cost the constructors’ championship dearly if the team does not score any points this weekend.

The start of the Mexican Grand Prix will be given this Sunday at 8:00 p.m. (Paris time) and the race will be watched live on F1only.fr.
