Yesterday Alena Koščálová started her speech yesterday differently than usual. The reason is the critical situation in which Slovakia currently finds itself. According to her, we are experiencing déjà vu before the Christmas holidays. Once again, the health system is in danger of collapsing. We are not yet able to conquer the Pandemic Mountain as the experts imagined. Elena Prokopová, the chief pediatrician of the Ministry of Health, warns of the consequences of non-compliance with the measures.

Once again, the health system is in danger of collapsing, and hospitals are filling up quickly

A pandemic has been our reality for more than a year and a half. “But when we go out of the hospital gates, we increasingly feel as if a pandemic has long since died out. However, the epidemiological situation in Slovakia is rapidly deteriorating, and that is why we also share what may not be easy to hear.” said Koščálová, adding that the number of patients in hospitals is growing rapidly and with the continuing trend, all planned reprofiled beds for covide will be filled within a few weeks.

“Already, the number of patients is so high that more and more hospitals are limiting planned surgeries and other white medicine. Today, we are talking again and openly about the impending collapse of the health system,” she stated. According to the primary wave, the third wave is also a non-vaccinated wave. “These are people who, for various reasons, have decided to gain immunity by overcoming the disease and not by vaccination. The unfortunate thing in Slovakia is that there are so many such people.” stated that the uncontrolled infestation that we are watching live is leading to a rapid overload of the vulnerable health system.

“The vaccine is our protection in overcoming a pandemic mountain. It is not an automatic guarantee of success, but it will keep us in a situation where we are losing solid ground under our feet. which fell from that mountain while unsecured climbing, ” she added, adding that this is one of the reasons why, even at the time of available, effective and safe vaccination, we are still forced to talk about strict restrictive measures that countries with high vaccinations no longer need today.

The measures must be complied with

Prokopová also commented on the benefits for those vaccinated in the black districts. They can imagine that the operations would work for the obsolete and vaccinated, because the risk is low for them. “Even if they get infected, they’re not the ones filling hospitals or limiting health care. That’s why we can really imagine it, but only if we’re really sure it’s being followed.” stressed.

“Because if it’s not followed and people get there who are potentially at risk and unvaccinated, and who haven’t overcome COVID and can be infected, they can get to a hospital in a difficult condition, it won’t help us in that situation.” she said that now we are all in the same boat and the measures apply to us all. According to Prokopová, however, the control of measures does not work.

It’s all about people’s responsibility

“Simply, if those measures are not followed, those people will harm themselves by having the plant closed and not being able to go into that plant. It’s not about hygiene coming there for control and closing the plant. It’s really on the responsibility of the people, “ the expert stressed.

In our opinion, however, it is about how the nation will approach the measures. “If we approach it responsibly, we will have it, if we underestimate it and think about how to get around it, then we will have to keep it closed, because otherwise we will not keep it here – the health and lives of people,” she added.
