Xavi Hernandez is now the official new coach of FC Barcelona footballers. The Catalan club confirmed on Saturday night that it had agreed on a contract with him until 2024. Xavi will replace Dutchman Ronald Koeman as helmsman.

“It’s time to go home. Hello, Xavi, “Barcelona welcomed her former player on Twitter.

“We expect Xavi Hernandez to arrive in Barcelona this weekend and to introduce him to the fans as a new first team coach at Camp Nou on Monday, November 8th.”

Forty-one-year-old Xavi has so far led the Qatari club Al-Sadd, from where Barcelona acquired him by paying a ransom clause of about 5 million euros.

In Qatar, his contract was valid until 2023, and he recently expressed confidence that both clubs would agree to release it.

Xavi completed an active career in a Qatari club and has been his head coach since 2019. Al-Sadd led to the championship last season.

The former creator of the game with ingenious football thinking won up to 25 trophies in the first team of Barcelona in 1998–2015, including four triumphs in the Champions League and eight titles in the Spanish league. He played for FCB for a total of 767 duels.

After the early departure of Koeman, Sergi Barjuan was temporarily leading the team. He will return to the Barcelona reserve team after Saturday’s league duel at Celty Vigo.

Xavi is set to make his coaching debut on the bench of his former club on November 20 in La Liga’s home game against the city’s rival Espanyol, the AFP agency reported.

Barcelona currently ranks ninth in the highest competition.
