UNITED STATES – At least eight people were killed and several others injured during a crowd movement Friday evening November 5 at the music Festival Astroworld in Houston, in the southern United States, local authorities and US media reported.

“The crowd started to rush to the front of the stage. This created a start of panic which resulted in injuries, ”said Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pena.

“We have at least eight confirmed deaths this evening and several injured,” he said, adding that 17 people had been taken to hospital, including 11 victims of cardiac arrest.

This is the third edition of this festival organized by the rapper Travis Scott, born in Houston. It was to take place over two days, Friday and Saturday, but the second day was canceled following these events.

Festival-goers out of control

The festival was sold out, with 100,000 tickets sold less than an hour after they went on sale in May.

Several fans were trampled as hundreds of people rushed to the stage, reports the American channel ABC .

Once inside, some began to climb on portable toilets as security personnel struggled to contain the crowds.
