In Austria, only people vaccinated against covid or those who have already overcome the disease will be able to attend restaurants, hotels or cultural events from Monday. The AFP agency informed about it on Friday.

According to Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg, the new regime will take effect from the beginning of next week.

During the next four-week transition period, single-dose vaccination or PCR test results will still be accepted.

“No one wants to divide society, but it is our responsibility to protect the people of our country,” Schallenberg said, adding that the government also wanted to motivate unvaccinated people to be vaccinated.

Under the new rules, it will no longer be enough for people to prove a negative test result for covid when using services that involve close contact between customers and staff, such as hairdressers.

Only vaccinated and cured covid will be able to attend mass events with more than 25 people.

In Austria, more than 9,300 cases of new coronavirus infections occurred on Friday, the highest since the beginning of this year.

According to AFP, in addition to the fact that hospital intensive care units are filling up faster than expected.

The country, which is dependent on tourism, is also concerned that other countries will consider it an area with a high risk of coronavirus infection.

About 64 percent of the population in Austria is fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 11,450 people have died in connection with the covid.
