The fire engulfed both attic apartments on the top floor and spread to the roof. “There are still firefighters intervening, dismantling the roof structure and looking for hidden hearths. The city of Žilina declared an emergency situation in connection with the fire on Thursday. The next step after the fire will be dealt with by the city’s crisis staff. The spokesman of the city of Žilina, Vladimír Miškovčík, informed.

Mayor Peter Fiabáne assured that the city is looking for temporary accommodation for residents of apartments affected by the fire, if they so request. “One family of three has asked the city for temporary replacement accommodation. We currently have free capacity, it is one one-room apartment owned by the city. If other requirements arise, we are ready to solve the situation.” stated.

According to city spokesman Vladimír Miškovčík, firefighters are currently dismantling the roof structure above the apartments that were affected by the fire. At the same time, they are looking for hidden fires. “Residents will be allowed to take personal belongings from the apartments with the assistance of firefighters or the police. The apartment building will then be secured against entry,” Miškovčík said, adding that the cause of the fire would be investigated by an expert.

The apartment building is owned by the city, there are 12 two-room apartments, it was inhabited by 24 people.
