Volkswagen ID.5: SUV coupe is a new member of the electric car family – SME.sk

The concept of the Volkswagen ID Crozz, its serial version premiered more than four years after the performance. It’s called the ID.5, based on the electric SUV ID.4, but got a sleeker coupe-style rear. However, this is not the only difference.

The 2766 mm wheelbase did not change from ID.4, but added 15 millimeters to a total length of 4,599 mm. Although the sportier-cut body looks like a fashion fad, it also delivers a lower drag coefficient of just 0.26 Cd. From the user’s point of view, ID.5 should have even lower consumption than ID.4.

“The Volkswagen ID.5 has the body type of the future. It is aerodynamic, expressive, sporty and thanks to the MEB chassis platform with short overhangs, “said Volkswagen Kabaň, chief designer of the Volkswagen brand, during the presentation.

He added that the new concept made it possible to offer a spacious interior despite the dynamic line of the sloping roof, which was not possible in the past.

Even so, the more dynamic silhouette means that the rear passengers have 12 mm less space above their heads than in the ID.4. The case is paradoxically a bit larger and offers a volume of 549 liters.

Volkswagen is talking about three versions of the ID.5, all of which have a larger 77 kWh battery with a range of 520 kilometers.

In terms of performance, the offer will be the same as for ID.4, which means that the weakest version of the Pro has a 128 kW (174-horsepower) electric motor, the medium Pro Performance raises the power of the rear electric motor to 150 kW (204 hp) and the top is a GTX with front-wheel drive wheels thanks to the second electric motor. Then the power is 220 kW (299 hp) and acceleration from zero to one hundred in 6.2 seconds.

The interior has not changed compared to ID.4, the novelty is the new 3.0 software with online updates and there is also a driving assistant, also with current traffic information.

In addition to the new rear part with a stylish spoiler, the ID.5 also boasts matrix LED lights, the possibility of an adaptive chassis or intelligent energy management.

From the point of view of the entire Volkswagen Group, this is not the first or last electric SUV coupe. The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron has been on the market for some time now, and a similarly cut Škoda Enyaq Coupé will be added at the beginning of next year.
