The statistics published by the Ministry of Health speak for themselves. With increasing age, the risk of you falling into hospital or dying of Covid-19 increases sharply. According to statistics from the first two waves and the beginning of the third wave of the pandemic in Slovakia, it looks like this: Of the 46,000 infected aged 60-70, almost 7,400 people ended up in hospital. Of these hospitalized, up to 19 percent, one in five, succumbed to the disease. Seventies turned even worse, more than a third of those infected (8,392 out of 22,315 infected) ended up in hospital, and almost a third (28%) died. For the Eighties, the tables are already alarming. Of the 11,212 infected, more than half (5,689) ended up in hospital, with up to 39 percent of hospitalized people in their 80s suffering from the disease, ie significantly more than a third.

Currently, Slovakia records almost 5,000 new cases of coronavirus daily, so covid-19 can already be found anywhere. In the streets, catering establishments, shops or shopping centers. Even in this situation, however, seniors need to eat and have the right to a dignified life, which undoubtedly includes affordable quality food. But how to get to it safely? One of the possibilities is to use the services of long-term delivery, and this is what the Lunch for Seniors service has been offering in Bratislava for the second year in a row. The food, which is praised by many, can be afforded and ordered by really everyone. We looked at how exactly it works.

A full lunch, ie soup (0.24 l), main course (250 g) and dessert (up to 70 g), which Bratislava seniors can order in up to 12 of the 17 city districts, is really affordable. It costs only 3.50 euros, while the price is final and includes transport. You can order it directly on the website obedypreseniorov.sk. So only a lunch prepared at home can really compete with this service in terms of price, but you need to go shopping for groceries and it costs you time and energy.

During the Lunch for the Elderly service, the chefs prepare the food every morning and carefully wrap it up, observing strict hygienic standards. Adherence to them and protection of health is one of the reasons why they distribute it chilled. In these risky times, the senior does not have to come into contact with the driver at all, because he can simply deliver the lunch to the agreed place after agreement, where the senior will then pick it up. Of course, for immobile customers, an agreement is also possible to take over directly at the door of the apartment. Delivery takes place between 9:00 and 14:00, while the driver always calls the customer a few minutes before his arrival.

“Meals can be ordered for the whole month in two variants. Either for the whole month only on working days, or for the whole month including weekends, ” explains Pavol Benčík from the company NAJEME SA sro, which prepares food for seniors. As for the main course, they offer a choice of two types of menu every day – meat and meatless. However, the company also thought that older people can spend some time in a hospital, spa or simply on vacation. In this case, they can also check out for lunch, but at least for a week.

And how does a senior get to these lunches? Quite simply. Either fill out the order form on the obedypreseniorov.sk website, or order them by e-mail or telephone.

It is possible to pay via internet banking, deposit to an account or by check, but it is also possible to pay in cash.
