Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský did not rule out a nationwide lockdown before Christmas. He admitted that if the situation does not improve, lockdown is one of the options. “I believe that will not happen,” Lengvarsky said. He thus responded to the deteriorating pandemic situation in the country. There are already 36 districts in the worst black phase.

Slovakia is governed by a COVID automaton, which determines the rules for individual districts. The declaration of a state of emergency was rejected in September by Prime Minister Eduard Heger and neither Minister Lengvarský did not want to propose it. However, the lockdown that we experienced earlier this year or last year during Dušičky would require a declaration of a state of emergency, because without it it is not possible to restrict the movement of people. The governing coalition would have to agree on it.

At the same time, Lengvarský stated that the coalition council will also deal with the change of the COVID machine. After the new one, they could also open fitness centers or hotels for vaccinated people in the black districts. In such a case, however, all employees of these establishments would also have to be vaccinated. To do this, employers would need permission to ask covidpas from workers. According to Lengvarsky, this change is demanded by the employers themselves. Coalition partners will therefore discuss the proposal.
