Belarusian diplomat had to explain the intrusion of militants into Poland – SME.sk

WARSAW. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Belarusian charge d’affaires for the “intrusion of uniformed individuals armed with long weapons” into Polish territory.

The summons, according to ministry spokesman Lukasz Jasin, concerns the night incident from Monday to Tuesday. Alexander Česnovský was summoned to the ministry on Tuesday.

They loaded their weapons and left

Polish intelligence spokesman Stanislaw Zaryn said three uniformed people with weapons were spotted by Polish soldiers. “After meeting the Polish patrol, they loaded their weapons and then left for Belarus,” he explained.

According to Jasina, Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk demanded an explanation during a meeting with Česnovsky, stressing that “the measures taken by the Belarusian authorities in recent weeks have increasingly clear signs of a deliberate escalation”.

Warning of Belarus

Wawrzyk “pointed out that Poland considered such steps unacceptable and would not tolerate them” and also stressed his country’s determination to “defend its borders and the European Union’s external borders”.

Belarus has not yet commented on the situation.

The incident happened at a time when Poland was facing considerable migratory pressure on its border with Belarus. The Belarusian authorities have lured thousands of migrants to the country on tourist visas, encouraging them to move to Poland, Lithuania and to a lesser extent to Latvia

. Large numbers of people from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and also from Africa are trying to cross the border in the hope of eventually reaching Western European countries.

Poland and other European Union countries blame the government of President Alexander of Belarus Lukashenko from the promotion of migration as a form of hybrid war aimed at destabilizing the Euroblock.
