The reform of national parks only concerns national parks, not all protected areas. It does not respect the government’s program statement (PVV) talking about the need to make a review of protected areas. This was stated by the former Minister of Agriculture and Member of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic Ján Mičovský (OĽaNO). He pointed to the conclusions of the UN conference on climate change in Glasgow in the form of a commitment by countries not to reduce afforestation. Karahuta also tabled his own amendment to the Nature Conservation Act.

According to Richard Takáč (Smer-SD), it is first necessary to re-evaluate all protected areas and then carry out a revision, then zoning of national parks and accordingly transfer areas under the State Nature Protection (SOP) of the Slovak Republic. He declared that Smer-SD is in favor of reform and transition of land administration “under one roof”, but not in the form presented. He suggested that the National Council of the Slovak Republic not continue negotiations on the amendment.

He criticizes that the amendment was not communicated with the professional public. According to him, the coalition went through a proper process when the proposal was submitted by deputies instead of the government. The proposal lacks impact studies of land transfers, he talked about the socio-economic consequences.
