Barcelona star Sergio Agüero will be out for 3 months after a “cardiological evaluation”

(CNN) – Sergio “Kun” Agüero will be off the pitch for three months after undergoing a “cardiological evaluation,” confirmed Barcelona.

The Argentine had to leave the field of play 40 minutes into the match against Alavés (1-1) after falling to the ground and clutching his chest, but was able to leave the field without help.

The newspaper Sport and the EFE agency later reported that Agüero suffered a cardiac arrhythmia.

“The first team player Sergio Agüero has undergone a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr. Josep Brugada,” Barça reported in a statement.

“It is not available for selection and the efficacy of the treatment will be evaluated over the next three months to determine its recovery process,” he added.

“The Argentine was taken to the hospital for a cardiological evaluation on Saturday after Barça’s game against Alavés in which the Barça forward felt bad in the first half and was replaced before the break by Philippe Coutinho.”

Agüero has struggled with injuries since joining the Blaugrana team from Manchester City and was only able to make his debut in October.

His absence will only aggravate the problems of Barça, who have just fired Ronald Koeman as coach after an unpromising start to the season.

Barcelona are in ninth place in the League after 11 games, nine points behind leaders Real Sociedad, and face a great duel against Dinamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday.
