Slovakia darkens from the east on the covid automate. The most difficult cases, even from distant corners, often end in the Roosevelt Hospital in Banská Bystrica. They have not had a vaccinated patient here yet.

Shortly before our visit, one bed was released at the ARO for covid-positive patients. The poor man’s body is waiting at the door for transport.

The novelty compared to the second wave is the frequent blood clots that pass into the lungs, which cannot sufficiently oxygenate the blood.

In Banská Bystrica, doctors are also helped by the ECMO device, which oxygenates blood outside the body. If it can’t be helped elsewhere, patients are often sent here.

“You have to depersonalize yourself because we wouldn’t be able to do the job. However, the longer we have people here, the harder it is for us if we do not succeed in treatment, “said Zuzana Kvasníková.

Until now, they had mainly patients from distant places, but even in the middle of Slovakia, seriously ill covid patients are already growing.
