Paris: a banal police check leads to an unprecedented seizure of counterfeit banknotes – teller report

A huge catch of the net. The unexpected check of a man on Wednesday in Paris, in possession of numerous banknotes, then the search of his home, led to the discovery of nearly 130,000 euros in counterfeit bills, a police source told AFP. “This is the largest known seizure of counterfeit banknotes of this type of counterfeit in Europe”, said the latter, confirming information from the Actu17 site.

In this case, the suspect is a 43-year-old Senegalese in an irregular situation. He was arrested in the Parisian tourist district of Les Halles after a brief chase on foot. The police discovered in his pockets an envelope containing 200 counterfeit banknotes and decided to take him into custody. In the process, the police discovered “more than 1,000 good quality banknotes of 100, 50 and 20 euros” at his home in Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis). In all, just under 130,000 euros.

Already known to the police for various offenses related to the use of narcotics, rebellion and concealment of theft, the forties claimed to be “than a mule” within this counterfeit money traffic. The Central Office for the Suppression of Counterfeiting (OCRFM) is now responsible for investigations.
