SOFIA. A massive increase in cases of the disease COVID-19 brought hospital in Bulgaria on the verge of collapse.

After a relatively peaceful summer, the Balkan country has been hit hard by another wave of coronavirus pandemics, as Bulgaria has failed to implement more stringent measures against the spread of the disease.

Even the lowest contributes to the unflattering situation vaccination throughout the European Union. Health officials attribute the increase in infections to the population’s distrust of vaccination. Only about one in four Bulgarian citizens is fully vaccinated, well below the EU average.

On Friday, there were more than 7,500 patients with COVID-19 in Bulgarian hospitals, of which 656 were in intensive care units.

In addition, there were 5,178 new cases and another 124 related deaths in Bulgaria on Friday, bringing the number of victims in the country to 23,718.

In the last two weeks, Bulgaria had the highest coronavirus mortality in the EU, with up to 94 percent of these deaths being unvaccinated.

Thousands of restaurant owners, chefs, waiters and bartenders took to the streets across Bulgaria on Thursday to protest the government’s decision to introduce compulsory COVID passports for all those who want to enter indoor facilities.
