The Polling Commission notes several errors or shortcomings in the presentation made by Cnews. The channel has since apologized.

POLICY – Cfakenews? The -discreet- Polling Commission pinned the Canal + group news channel, Thursday, October 28, for having disseminated, the day before, a survey with approximate, even misleading, data and presentation.

The independent administrative authority (composed of nine members), responsible, as its name suggests, to control the election polls, noted no less than three errors or failures in the diagram aired, Wednesday, October 27, in the program Time for the pros 2. On the form, as on the substance.

A statement which confirms the doubts of Internet users and observers who had already pointed out the thing, in a presidential pre-campaign where opinion polls are the focus of all comments.

106% of voting intentions, but -3 for Jadot

Based on a survey conducted by Harris Interactive for Challenges, the visual of Cnews showed, at first, Emmanuel Macron prancing in the lead with 23% of the voting intentions, in front of Eric Zemmour (17%), Marine Le Pen (16%) or Xavier Bertrand (14%). With Valérie Pécresse, and Jean-Luc Mélenchon at 10 then Michel Barnier at 8 and Yannick Jadot at 5, the total therefore showed 103% of voting intentions. Corrected to 106, thereafter.

This figure can be explained by the presence, on the same graph, of three hypothetical candidates on the right (Bertrand, Pécresse, Barnier) never tested simultaneously. A visual corrected to 106, quite simply because the green candidate, Yannick Jadot, was initially cut by 3% of voting intentions, as you can see it above.

Zemmour “on the rise”?

The authority finally notes the error of analysis of the information chain concerning the polemicist who occupied his antenna almost daily for nearly three years.

Cnews actually titled this poll “Presidential: Eric Zemmour on the rise” (below at 23′40), unfounded, since the survey to which the channel refers gives a voting intention “exactly identical to that of the two previous waves of this institute when it tests the same hypotheses” concerning the putative candidate for the ‘presidential election. Either between 17% or 18% (with an uncertainty margin of 2.1%).

“The title of the table presented by CNEWS must therefore be read with the greatest caution”, writes the Commission, which concludes its relatively offensive press release by evoking “the caution that should be adopted when reading certain media”.

The channel has also apologized on the air to “the Harris interactive institute and (our) colleagues from Challenges for having broadcast an erroneous poll for the presidential election.”
