Singer Ed Sheeran continues the albums + (Plus, 2011), × (Multiply, 2014) and ÷ (Divide, 2017) with the fourth album, which again has the mathematical sign = (Equals) instead of the name. Given the previous successes of the talented native of Halifax, England, today’s release of his new studio is one of the biggest musical events of 2021.

Album = captures intimate moments and events of everyday life. Ed Sheeran it is known for its fact that, despite the status of a world mega-star, it tries to stay as close to the earth as possible and not to let fame roll over.

According to the official press release for the album, in his new work he tried to “take the universal experience to a higher level”. In fourteen songs, the novelty, through music and lyrics, deals with everything that life has brought him since the release of the last album. “I got married, became a father, experienced a loss (…) Equals I see it as an album that I came up with, “he says of the new album.

Along with the release of the album, he also premiered a new music video for the third official single today Overpass Graffiti. The first two tastings of his new work were singles Bad Habits a Shivers.

Album = brings a sonorous mixture composed of typically Sheeran guitar songs, slow ballads and euphoric pop pieces with elaborate arrangements. Most of the new songs were co – produced by Fred Gibson known as Fred Again and also Johnny McDaidwith which Sheeran was preparing the previous album Divide. Other collaborators include Steve Mac, songwriter Foy Vance, David Hodges, Andrew Watt, Lou Bell or Ed’s brother Matthew Sheeran.

Sheeran wrote a collection of new songs during the four years following the release of Divide. He also released a mixtape during this period No. 6 Collaborations Project (2019) full of guests (eg Bruno Mars, Stormzy, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Cardi B …), he went on a long tour, married his former classmate Cherry Seaborn and became a happy father.

Repeat with Equals the phenomenal success of the previous album will be difficult. In 2017, Divide became one of the three fastest-selling recordings in British history, with sales in the first week of over 672,000 copies. At the same time, all sixteen songs from the album reached the single Top 20 immediately after their release. In the UK, Divide is currently the fifth best-selling title of the new millennium. The success of the first singles Bad Habits a Shivers however, he suggests that even with the novelty, he will be one of the most successful pop performers this year.
