SAD message: A well-known Slovak director has left us forever! – Pluska.sk

“Today, in the early afternoon, we received a message from the family of Petr J. Oravec, a prominent former director and playwright of the Nová scéna Theater, about his death,” she stated.

Oravec was born on June 14, 1943 in Trenčín and his professional career is mainly associated with musical theater. In 1968 he graduated in dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava. He directed a number of operettas and musicals mainly at the New Stage Theater (1979-1998), and also worked at theaters in Prešov, Brno, České Budějovice and the Karlín Theater in Prague. Thanks is also known the legendary music and entertainment show RTVS Repete, on which he collaborated with Ivan Krajíček.

He directed musicals such as The Friend of Bunbury (1079), The Firefighter (1980), The Three Musketeers (1980) and the operettas Orpheus in the Underworld (1981) and The Cardinal Princess (1982). He premiered two Slovak musical novelties, Opera Mafiozo (1982) and Brzdy (1983). He also directed the musicals Cancan and Gypsies Go to Heaven.

He also directed drama, with the ensemble Poetic Scene he studied the play Amfytrion (1980) and in Studio S comedy Saldokonto (1984) and It wasn’t the fifth, it was the ninth (1986). With his chamber opera, he again staged the opera Taming of the Shrew (1988). He was also the author of many entertainment scenes for Czech Radio, for example for the show Panoráma.
