The director and dramaturg of the New Stage Theater, Peter J. Oravec, died on Friday at the age of 78. Petr J. Oravec’s professional career was connected mainly with musical theater, he directed a number of operettas and musicals at the Nová scéna Theater from 1979 to 1998, he also worked in theaters in Prešov, Brno, České Budějovice and the Karlín Theater in Prague. “After studying dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, he started in 1968 as an actor and director in the Military Art Ensemble, but his main works began to emerge only after arriving at the Jonáš Záborský Theater in Prešov and later at the Nová scéna Theater,” inform the representatives of the theater. Perhaps the greatest response was recorded by his production of the original author’s musical Opera Mafiozo, which premiered on the New Stage on February 6, 1982.
