“We are facing higher prices, we are facing inflation, which will still rise to around five percent,” said the president, however, stressing that the situation should calm down next year. It also highlighted the expected wage growth of around 5.5%.

The rise in price will affect each of us

“Of course, this increase will affect each of us. But a large group of the population will not feel it more significantly in their wallets. At the same time, there is a group of people who will be significantly affected by the increase.” said the president. According to experts, there are currently around 800,000 people at risk of poverty, who will feel more expensive.

The president pointed out that the increase in prices will probably be felt most by families with more than three children, single parents and pensioners. “Another interesting piece of information is that more than 5.7%, about 370,000 people can’t keep warm in their homes for financial reasons.” remarked Čaputová.

The president sees a solution by increasing the housing allowance

Among the most appropriate solutions to compensate for the increase in prices for low-income residents, the President named an increase in the housing allowance, which could be targeted assistance for those who receive a benefit in material need.

“But there is also a need to change the definition of the group of people who receive this allowance, so that it can cover a larger group of people, the so-called working poverty,” said the president. According to her, it is also necessary to consider increasing the dose itself in material need for people who are already receiving this help.
