Presidential election 2022: Yannick Jadot wants to ban hunting on weekends and school holidays – archyde

The debate around hunting, a passionate subject that generates many tensions, continues. Yannick Jadot, Europe Ecology-Les Verts (EELV) presidential candidate, announced on Friday, October 29, his desire to ban the practice on weekends and during school holidays. “Nature must be accessible to everyone”, he justified on BFM-TV. “When I hear that three quarters of people who live in rural areas do not dare to go for a walk on Sundays when there is gunfire, it is not normal”, he continued.

Mr. Jadot also reaffirmed his desire to completely ban hunting with hounds, such as that of endangered species and “All other cruel hunts”, and recalled that if he is elected President of the Republic in April 2022, a “Ministry of animal welfare” would be created.

Protect endangered species

The environmental candidate also said: “Seventy percent of hunters come from the cities. Stop telling us that it is the rural people who hunt! ” His proposal is reminiscent of Voynet law, adopted in July 2000 and which provided for one day without hunting per week, a measurement withdrawn after three years of application. Today, hunting is authorized from the fall and during a large part of the winter, without daily conditions.

Referring to government policy on this, Mr. Jadot said that “If the French courts systematically break all decrees issued by the government to please hunters”, it’s for “Protect endangered species”. He thus recalled his desire to prohibit “ hunting of birds and protected animals’ and “All the cruel hunts”, including hunting with hounds.

“Basically, Emmanuel Macron is a man under the influence of lobbies. It is particularly under the influence of the hunting lobby ”, hammered the MEP, calling it “Shocking” the traditional hunting authorization decrees taken by the government on this subject, against European prescriptions.

“No tradition justifies making animals suffer”

On BFM-TV on Friday, Mr. Jadot said to himself ” without ambiguity ” in favor of the abolition of ritual slaughter methods in France. “I want us to get out of factory farming, this farming where animals never see the outdoors. It is abominable for the animals, abominable for those who work there. It gives us a diet that is not of good quality ”, he continued. Finally if he said “Hear these traditions” nuns, he felt “There is no tradition that justifies making animals suffer”.

The MEP EELV wanted to clarify his comments on this subject when leaving the set, in a video shared on Twitter, explaining that he only wanted the animals to be stunned before slaughter: “Let there be no ambiguity: religions can have their traditions, including their slaughter, but this slaughter cannot be exempt from the rules of animal welfare, in particular stunning. “
