But it was something for something. The government gained money but lost influence over a key company, the Slovak Gas Industry.

Until then, it was the “golden hen”, which generated profits from the transportation of Russian gas further to Europe. Since then, almost two decades have passed and no one has surpassed the acquisition in nominal terms in the public or private spheres. But now that may change.
