They opened a new bypass of Prešov. It will save the driver almost 19 minutes to drive – TVNOVINY.sk

Transit traffic from Liptov to eastern Slovakia and vice versa will bypass Prešov from Thursday at midnight. They opened the D1 highway Prešov, west – Prešov, south. The section is almost eight kilometers long and includes a two-kilometer two-pipe tunnel Prešov.

“I am looking forward to going around Prešov. I know that we still have a lot of investment debt, much more that the National Highway Company has to finish in Slovakia, but that does not mean that we cannot look forward to such positive news. We have completed one section, but that does not mean that we are not working on others. We are working intensively to complete the first stage of the northern bypass. The completion date of March 2023 still applies there. I am convinced that in the coming weeks the NDS will announce public procurement for the second stage of the northern bypass of Prešov, “said Minister of Transport Andrej Doležal (nominee Sme rodina).

As he added, he does not forget about the construction of the R4. “I have an appointment with the Minister of Finance. I will want to connect the individual sections and assess the entire R4 as a whole, and I also allow financing through PPP, if it does not work out, “said Doležal.

“Poles will be on the border in a year or two, the Hungarians are already on our border. Via Carpatia will only cost us. In those hard-to-reach terrains, where there are around 5,000 trucks, the traffic rises to 20,000 at a time. That territory can’t stand it. We need to start doing something with Via Carpatia. The building was originally scheduled to be completed in June. According to NDS director Juraj Tlap, the work was affected by two waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, when several workers tested positive.

There are 18 bridges, 19 branches of intersections and six kilometers of noise barriers on the route of the new motorway. At the intersection of Prešov, west, two motorways and first, second and third class roads connect. In the branches, it makes a total of 11.3 kilometers, which is more than the length of the entire section. The new bypass will shorten the ride by almost 19 minutes.

The Prešov tunnel consists of two tunnel pipes, which are connected by eight transverse connections. The excavation of the tunnel began in the summer of 2018 – a new Austrian tunneling method was used. The work was carried out in continuous operation and involved 240 workers.
