BARCELONA – The Spanish football club FC Barcelona has reportedly already agreed on the terms with Xavi Hernández, who should replace the dismissed Dutchman Ronald Koeman as head coach.

According to the daily Sport, Xavi must now agree with the current employer Al Sadd SC to terminate the contract, which is valid until 2023. However, the contractual penalty for early withdrawal is set at one million euros. Xavi has completed an active career in the Qatari club and has been his head coach since 2019. According to Sport, the new coach should be decided on Thursday.

The forty-one-year-old former midfielder has spent almost his entire playing career in a Catalan club and is one of his greatest legends. He came as an 11-year-old and spent more than two decades there. The former creator of the game with ingenious football thinking won up to 25 trophies in the first team in the years 1998-2015, including four triumphs in the Champions League and eight titles in the Spanish league. He played for FCB for a total of 767 duels.

The Spaniard, who at the end of his playing career did not hide his ambition to embark on a coaching career, also experienced great success in the national team jersey. In the role of a tireless dynamo from the middle of the field, he led Spain to gold for EURO 2008 after 44 long years, then he was also in the title of 2010 World Championships and other gold from the European Championships two years later.

After the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where the Spanish footballers did not advance from the group, he announced the end of his career in the national team.
