A man with a bow in Kongsberg, Norway, attacked a total of up to 24 people – SME.sk

OSLO. A total of 24 people are currently considered by the Norwegian authorities to be “victims” of the causes of the attack by a man with a bow and arrow, which claimed five lives and injured three on 13 October in the Norwegian city of Kongsberg. This was announced on Wednesday by the Norwegian police, whose statements were quoted by the AFP agency.

Danish Espen Andersen Brathen accidentally attacked people on the evening of October 13 in Kongsberg. He was detained by police on the spot and is currently undergoing psychiatric examinations. Police believe that he was attacked by a mental illness.

“We still have 24 victims in the case,” police inspector Per Thomas Omholt told a news conference on Wednesday. He stated that this number included five dead people, three injured and 16 other people who were exposed to “various events” in connection with the attack.

He described the last-mentioned group as people whom the attacker tried to kill or injure, mostly shooting arrows at them with a bow. The inspector added that this number could still change. Omholt also said that the police had still not determined the motive for the attack.

Brathen, who had lived in Kongsberg for a long time, announced before the attack on social networks that he had converted to Islam, which led to speculation about the jihadist motive for the attack. However, according to Omholt, the investigation “weakened” this hypothesis, and it is not even clear whether this man really converted to Islam.
