A humorous sign in reference to Harry Potter … replaced by a real sign by the Paris town hall – BFMTV

This cardboard sign was a joke in reference to the Harry Potter saga. It had been designed in cardboard by a street-art collective and installed with other panels. It was recently changed by the municipality, replaced by a real traffic sign.

It is a sign that makes the inhabitants of the Rhine and Danube square district laugh a lot. In the 19th arrondissement, the Paris town hall changed several signposts superimposed on each other. They were positioned on the terrace of a cafe and the manager therefore asked that they be moved.

A request accepted by the town hall, which sent a team to intervene on Place Rhin et Danube. This one came with new panels to make this change.

Amused residents

Among the five new signs freshly put in place by municipal teams, one of them particularly caught the attention of some residents. This indicates “Diagon Alley”. But the old sign with this inscription was actually a forgery, a joke imagined a few years ago.

Seated on the terrace, an amused inhabitant sums up the story:

“There is an artist who installed the Diagon Alley sign, made of cardboard, simply a reference to the Harry Potter film, and who installed it above the sign. The city of Paris changed the sign and copied it to the identical side road, and it points … nowhere! “

Like this local resident, the inhabitants having knowledge of its history therefore had fun with its replacement by an official aluminum panel.

“I took pictures because everyone was laughing, everyone knew about it, there is a guy from the town hall who came back and who just sent it to me on TikTok”, laughs a local resident.

Will the panel stay?

Some do not believe in a mistake and think that the sign indicates the crossing of Paris, a promenade which, as its name suggests, crosses the capital … except that the sign points in the opposite direction.

The false sign, the original cardboard created by a 19th century street art group now sits in the restaurant near which it was installed. “It makes us a little memory. It’s a bit our work”, we have fun in the establishment.

The mayor of Paris has recognized its error but does not know if the aluminum panel will be removed or not.
