However, this is not the only novelty that Slovenská pošta is preparing. From an interview with the company’s CEO Martin Ľupták for the portal životní.sk it is clear that they want to drastically change their reputation – they buy electric cars, they want to dig into the delivery system, and they are preparing an agreement with the online stores Aliexpres and Wish. Such an agreement was recently born in the Czech Republic.

In Slovakia, according to the director, the agreement is already in the finalization stage and the date when it will come into force is also known. According to Ľupták, this will happen in mid-November this year. He explained that the aim of the agreement is that the customer does not have to deal with customs duties when ordering from third countries – everything should be handled by Slovenská pošta for him. In reality, it should look like the amount that the consumer pays in the online store will already include the duty and people will not have to worry about additional fees at the post office. “And when you ordered something from Asia and the shipment came from a European warehouse, it does not come to Slovakia as a shipment from a third country, but as a shipment from the EU. It is therefore in free circulation, ” added Ľupták.

From July, all shipments from third countries – including China – must be cleared through customs. Slovaks remember this either directly through the financial administration or through the post office. “I received a report for the first seven weeks. The citizen had the opportunity to clear it through the post office or the financial administration portal. Of the 200,000 shipments, 200 made customs clearance through the financial administration portal and 199,800 through the post office. Some people were angry, we explained that the post office is just implementing the new legislation, and yet we did not explain it to many, ” said Ľupták, who admitted that low-value shipments cause them problems – if a permanent shipment costs less than a euro and the Slovak has to pay a much higher value, he simply will not take over the shipments.

However, Ľupták also provided further information – by the end of this year, up to 92 post offices in the whole of Slovakia should be canceled. However, he did not specify which post offices in which towns and villages it would be. “We visit each mayor and mayor in person. They consider it professional. Of course, I’m not jumping on happiness to close the post office in their village or town. But after our thorough explanation, they will say, aha, that makes sense, and if the services continue to be provided as we promise, they will accept our decision. ” concluded.
