Covid, Slovenia fears Bergamo scenario: 92% intensive care beds occupied

Imminent lockdown in Slovenia, where 92 per cent of ICU beds are occupied. This was announced by Health Minister Janez Poklukar, comparing the Slovenian situation to that of Italy at the beginning of the pandemic. “While we looked with fear to neighboring Italy at the start of the epidemic, we are now at a tipping point due to low vaccination rates and we could easily have a scenario like Bergamo,” Poklukar said. Contesting poor vaccination in Slovenia, Poklukar said the country has “the weapons and the means” but is not using them. About 53% of the population has been fully vaccinated.
