China, 4 million people in lockdown in Lanzhou after 6 new infections

Beijing’s policy of introducing lockdowns continues in locations where even a handful of covid cases are registered. Today, after only 29 new infections were added in the whole country, the city of 4 million inhabitants of Lanzhou, capital of the northwestern province of Gansu, which has had six cases, has been closed. Residents will not be able to leave their homes except in emergencies, to buy pharmacy products or essential foods. Rail, bus and air services to and from Lanzhou have been suspended. Since 17 October there have been 198 cases in China, attributable, according to the authorities, to a group of Chinese tourists who have moved from Shanghai to several other provinces.
