BRATISLAVA – The failure of the organizer, who did not instruct the police in time to intervene against the violators of public order, is responsible for the failure to react to the manifestations of the riots at the football derby between Trnava and Bratislava’s Slav. This was stated by the President of the Police Force (PZ), Štefan Hamran, at a meeting of the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for Education, Science, Youth and Sports on Tuesday.

“At the time when it was necessary to instruct the organizer to intervene in the police, the security manager was not in contact with the commander of the police intervention. after assessing the situation, he decided on his own shirt that the procedure would be carried out, “ said Hamran. He reminded that the police intervention should start only at the request of the organizer if his forces are not sufficient to handle the security situation.

The police chief informed the deputies that the police had imposed fines as part of the investigation, and that in several cases criminal proceedings had been instituted. “We have several hundred gigabytes of data at our disposal. We will try to identify anyone who has been illegally on the playing field. I can say that the factual nature of the crime of rioting has almost certainly come true.” he added. According to him, the amount for police intervention was estimated at 42,000 euros.

Hamran announces tougher prevention against similar incidents

A working group has been set up to identify rioters more quickly. Hamran announced that measures were being prepared to prevent tougher prevention of similar incidents. He assured that he would follow it vigorously.

“Anyone who knows me knows I’m results-oriented, I don’t like ballast and trampling on the spot,” stressed. He pointed out that the occurrence of similar incidents is influenced by the technical condition of stadiums, as well as the need for a real functioning information system, identifying people who create problems at sporting events.

The members of the committee announced the request to the Ministry of the Interior for legislative proposals that would prevent situations from happening. In general agreement in the committee, there was also an initiative to tighten the penalties for hooligans. MP Igor Kašper pointed out that it is necessary to consider changes that would allow the police to intervene without having to wait for the organizer’s request, as well as the possibility to intervene against suspects before the very beginning of the event. The Slovak Government Plenipotentiary for Sport, Karol Kučera, also asked about the preventive measures that had been taken.

The committee member lacked Kmotrík

Several missed the presence of the owner of the Slav, Ivan Kmotrík. Dušan Galis, a member and former coach of Slovan, expressed his astonishment as to why no measures would be taken against the riots in the city where the match is taking place, which is known in advance to be risky. “This did not happen in this case,” he pointed out.

The head of the Union of League Clubs, Ivan Kozák, said that the clubs and the union will cooperate as much as possible in setting measures that tighten the rules as well as more effectively eliminating suspects and already identified football hooligans so that they do not have a chance to get to the stadium. He pointed out that it is possible to be inspired by good examples from practice, for example from England.

The parliamentary committee was convened in response to the events of the Trnava – Slovan football derby, which did not take place on October 17. After less than a quarter of an hour, the referee had to interrupt him, as rioters ran into the field and there were physical confrontations between them. After the skirmishes, one of the fans had to be treated by medical staff directly on the lawn and taken away on a stretcher. After the meeting, the police announced that the order for the intervention of the security forces came late from the organizer.
