Michel Barnier, here April 27, 2021, is candidate for the Presidency of the Republic 2022.

POLICY – Should the points license be abolished as proposed Eric Zemmour? For the candidate for the Congress of the Republicans Michel barnier, it is a categorical refusal. “We should certainly not be controversial on this issue because behind, there are men, women and lives,” he argued on BFMTV Monday, October 25.

“I think of an 8-year-old girl, whom I knew well, who was my niece and who died in a car accident. And my mother, who is now deceased, immediately created the league against road violence, ”he revealed.

Before continuing: “I think of those men and women injured for life by automobile accidents and I think of all those who have been saved thanks to self-discipline measures of which the point license is one.” The latter was created in 1992 to empower and penalize dangerous behavior.

Eric Zemmour, for his part, argued during his interview on the show The Grand Debat an overpriced point recovery permit and courses.

Michel Barnier’s words and his candidacy are currently on an upward slope. The former negotiator of the Brexit went fromoutsider from the Republicans’ primary to near-favorite. If his name is less known to the French than that of Valérie Pécresse or Xavier Bertrand, he enjoys a certain advantage in this closed primary: that of never having left the party.

Eric Zemmour, meanwhile, has not (still) announced his candidacy but is increasing the announcements in the form of the start of an electoral program. In addition to the abandonment of the permit at the point, he also said his desire to restore speed to 90km / h on roads limited to 80 km / h and withdraw from the mayors the power to decide on the speed limit in their municipality.
