Naval League, agreement with the University of Salento on the promotion of ‘sea culture’


A collaboration agreement was signed between the University of Salento and the Italian Naval League (Lni). In the council chamber of the Rectorate of the University of Salento, the agreement was signed by the Rector of UniSalento, Professor Fabio Pollice, and by the President of the Italian Naval League, Admiral Donato Marzano. Starting from the common belief that the sea plays a central role in the development of the country system, and that it is necessary to increase public awareness of the importance of the maritime dimension for prosperity and national security, UniSalento and LNI have understood with this agreement to consolidate existing collaborative relationships and broaden the horizon of potential synergies. In fact, it is envisaged the creation of strategic partnerships in the fields of research, innovation and experimentation, training, education and practice of maritime sports, with reference to the themes of the law and culture of the sea, maritime and maritime safety, the physical environment and its dynamics, biodiversity and its protection, the safeguarding of maritime heritage and the diffusion of nautical sports.The first initiatives in the program are the joint organization of a second level master’s degree for specialists environmental quality and environmental monitoring campaigns carried out by the members of the Naval League under the technical-scientific supervision of the University, as well as the involvement of the student community in the practice of nautical sports and participation in environmental volunteering and solidarity boating initiatives.
