US gymnastics, abuse of athletes: Simone Biles in tears

Tears for Simone Biles. The US gymnast appeared today at a hearing before the Senate Justice Committee in Washington to talk about the negligence of the Indianapolis FBI in the investigation into the allegations of sexual abuse against Larry Nassar, the former US national gymnastics doctor sentenced to 176 years jail sentence for sexual harassment of about 500 gymnasts, including Biles. “They turned away when we denounced Nassar. It must never happen again”, the words of the Olympic champion on Capitol Hill. The gymnastics icon spoke of an “entire system that allowed and perpetuated” the sexual abuse committed by Nassar. Three other gymnasts accused the doctor along with Biles: Mckayla Maroney, Maggie Nichols and Aly Raisman. Now on trial are the federal officials and structures that were supposed to prevent the violence.
