Alfa Romeo, Bottas official driver for the 2022 World Championship

Valtteri Bottas will be an official Alfa Romeo-Sauber driver starting from the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship. The 32-year-old Finn has signed a multi-year contract with the Hinwil-based team, as Alfa Romeo announced on its website. Bottas will then take the place of fellow countryman Kimi Raikkonen who announced his retirement at the end of this season. George Russell’s official passage in Mercedes alongside Hamilton is also expected shortly. “A new chapter in my racing career is opening up. I am thrilled to join Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen for 2022 and beyond, for what will be a new challenge with an iconic manufacturer. Alfa Romeo is a brand that needs no introduction, has written some great pages in the history of Formula One and it will be an honor to represent this brand. The potential is there and I am relishing the opportunity to help the team get on the grid, especially with the new 2022 regulations which will give the team a chance to make a quantum leap, “says Bottas.” I am grateful for the confidence that the team has put it in me and I can’t wait to repay it: I’m more hungry than ever to race, when the time comes, to win. I know Fred Vasseur (Team Principal Alfa Romeo) well and I can’t wait to get to know the rest of the team I will work with, building strong relationships like the ones I have at Mercedes. I am proud of what I have achieved at Brackley and am fully focused on finishing the job as we fight for another world championship, but I am also looking forward to the new challenges that await me next year, ”adds Bottas.
