The NauticAttiva App, created by researchers from the Department of Earth and Geo-environmental Sciences of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, with the collaboration of the Italian Naval League, was presented in the Aula Magna of the Non-commissioned Officers School of the Navy of Taranto, the collection of information and reports at sea on the floating marine litter, the sighting of marine species of conservation interest and support for national monitoring programs. Stefano Bronzini, rector of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, in addition to expressing great satisfaction with the results of the collaboration with the Naval League, expressed the hope that the collaboration on such a topical issue as environmental protection could be extended to a more broad that involves other research bodies and institutions to build a better time than the current one. The National President of the Italian Naval League, Adm. Donato Marzano, after thanking the Rector, the researchers of the University of Bari who developed the App and the members of the LNI Sections involved (Brindisi, Mola di Bari, Taranto, Trani) , coordinated by the Regional Delegate for Puglia Andrea Retucci, highlighted how the App will be used by the peripheral structures of the Naval League. President Marzano stressed that he considered this instrument a priority with the aim of improving knowledge of the state of the sea to address both the problem of waste and the protection of marine flora and fauna. The NauticAttiva application was created within the agreement DISTEGEO (University of Bari Aldo Moro) and the Italian Naval League, aimed at fostering collaboration not only between the DISTEGEO and the LNI, but also with researchers from the Department of Biology and any other Departments of Didactics and Research of the University of Bari. This application provides purposes of common interest regarding monitoring activities of the marine and coastal habitat, with particular reference to the identification of waste, plastics and fauna in the Mediterranean. NauticAttiva’s design idea was born with an approach of ” Citizen Science “, an innovative and effective approach based on Fr. people who do not work professionally in the relevant field of study. The NauticAttiva application allows you to automatically obtain the classification and geolocation of the elements identified in the images, in order to be able to manage this information with territorial information systems. This makes it possible to have a considerable amount of data in a short time, in order to be able to address problems of common interest such as pollution from waste and plastics and related interaction with ecosystems.
