The 2022 Russian Grand Prix will not be replaced by another race. Formula 1 confirmed this. The World Championship is thus shortened to 22 races this season. The Sochi GP, initially scheduled for September, was immediately canceled by F1 and Liberty Media after Putin’s troop invasion of Ukraine. There was no shortage of proposals to replace the Russian appointment, but F1 felt it was not worth forcing the teams to undertake a real logistical tour de force due to EU freight rules. Furthermore, it was also considered useful not to add burdens and costs to the teams, all within a very short timeframe. Liberty Media had confirmed at the beginning of March that it had terminated its contract with the promoter of the Russian Grand Prix: there will be no races in Russian territory even in the future. The Sochi site has already been abandoned in favor of the new St. Petersburg runway from 2023.
