Tokyo 2020, Pellegrini elected IOC member in athletes’ quota

The blue Federica Pellegrini was elected a IOC member to represent the athletes who voted at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Village. The swimmer will remain in office until 2028 and will be in the Coni council until that date. In Italian sport the only precedent is that of Manuela Di Centa. Pellegrini was elected to the Athletes Commission of the International Olympic Committee obtaining 1,658 votes: the announcement came in the Tokyo Big Sight, the congress center where the MPC and the IPC are located. The Olympian in the 200 sl, record holder and the only athlete in history to have participated in five finals in five consecutive circles in the specialty, will remain in office for 7 years (not 8 due to the postponement of the elections due to the postponement of the Games) and will enter automatically in the Council and the National Council of Coni. It will be among the members who will have the right to vote on the occasion of the election of the next president of the organization in 2025. Together with Pellegrini, Pau Gasol (Basketball), Maja Wloszczowska (Cycling) and Yuki Ota (Fencing). Kirsty Coventry, Danka Barteková, Tony Estanguet and James Tomkins, as well as Stefan Holm, ended their mandates.
