Bergamini death, at the start of the trial: ex-girlfriend in the courtroom, the only defendant

The trial for the death of Donato ‘Denis’ Bergamini kicks off today, before the Court of Assizes of Cosenza. The player of the rossoblu club was run over by a truck, in circumstances that have remained unclear until now, on November 18, 1989 on Strada Statale 106. On the dock, and present in the courtroom, Bergamini’s ex-girlfriend, Isabella InternĂ², accused of competition in murder, aggravated by premeditation and futile reasons, and sent to trial on 20 September by the Gup of Castrovillari Fabio Lelio Festa who accepted the request of the prosecutor Luca Primicerio. Bergamini was run over by a truck driven by Raffale Pisano, then acquitted of manslaughter charges when the footballer’s death was filed as suicide (the hypothesis is that Bergamini threw himself under the truck after arguing with his girlfriend) . Thesis, that of suicide, never accepted by the footballer’s family (represented by the lawyer Fabio Anselmo, the same defender of the Cucchi family), who has always maintained that the footballer was instead killed by his girlfriend (the only defendant) in competition with people whose identity has so far remained unknown. In today’s hearing, the president of the Court of Assizes, Paola Lucente, after having rejected the defense’s request to cancel the proceedings, has set the resumption of the trial for next November 25th. There will be 200 witnesses parading in front of the court.
