Sardinia orange zone: “Data from yellow zone”

May 6, 2021

Sardinia, now the orange zone, wants the yellow zone – with new rules for free travel, restaurants open for lunch and dinner outdoors, bars with outdoor service, school – from Monday 10 May. Tomorrow, like every Friday, the Ministry of Health-Iss covid report on the covid epidemic in Italy is expected and the possible order of Minister Roberto Speranza could arrive. The Region sent a report this morning to the Ministry of Health, which confirms the progressive improvement of the epidemiological situation in the island: Rt in decline, data improving for hospitals. “The permanence of Sardinia in the orange zone – comments the president of the Region, Christian Solinas – would be paradoxical in the light of the data recorded in recent weeks. All the main indicators describe an improving situation, with a general framework compatible with a range of lower risk than the current one. We have already raised strong doubts about the current classification system. Restrictive measures are indispensable when they respond to specific needs for the containment of the virus, otherwise the danger is to see limitations applied only by virtue of the automatic mechanisms provided from the regulatory provisions “. The same provisional report, sent by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità to the Regions and awaiting validation by the control room, confirms that from 26 April to 2 May the Rt contagion index of Sardinia is 0 , 74, further down compared to the 0.81 recorded in the previous week. The data on pressure in hospitals are also positive, where the employment rate stands at 22% both for hospitalizations in the medical area and in intensive care, indices below the expected alert thresholds. “In light of these data – declares the regional health councilor, Mario Nieddu – we believe that Sardinia has the requisites for classification in a lower risk level than the current one. A decision in this sense would restore the appropriateness of the measures compared to the current epidemiological situation. The general picture is constantly changing and vaccinations are continuing massively. We do not intend to let our guard down, but many activities are waiting to be able to start again and at present they would be able to do it safely. Today the stay in the orange zone it would not be justified or justifiable in any way “.
