They showed up at the post offices in Milan to collect the citizenship income but they could not speak Italian. This is how the Milan Postal and Communications Police Department launched an investigation that led to the identification of over fifty individuals who have received, or attempted to receive, the Citizenship Income without being entitled to it. The 50 were reported. A real criminal association was thus dismantled which organized the entry into Italy of subjects from Romania, Austria and Germany to go to the post offices in Milan in order to receive the card, which they collected upon presentation of falsified documents. . The investigation, coordinated by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Rome Postal and Communications Police Service, began in September 2020 and over time led to the arrest of two subjects found in possession of false documentation, to the execution of eight searches and the discovery of prepaid cards, receipts for submitting the application for citizenship income, as well as messages that the interested parties exchanged via chat to arrange travel and stay in the area.
