Medicines, from diabetes to hypertension: higher use in disadvantaged areas

In Italy “it was clearly highlighted that the use of drugs is higher in the most disadvantaged areas, as if to show an indicator of pathology or health demand” associated with these conditions of discomfort, “particularly in Southern Italy”. This was highlighted by the director general of the Italian drug agency Aifa, Nicola Magrini, illustrating the topic addressed by a new report presented today in Rome by the experts of the tricolor regulatory body, the Atlas of social inequalities in the use of drugs for the treatment of major chronic diseases’. In Italy, on the chronic disease front “the consumption of drugs is higher among subjects residing in the most disadvantaged areas, probably due to the worst state of health (which could be associated with an incorrect lifestyle)”, he analyzed the Dg in the foreword of the report. It happens for example for diabetes, or for hypertension.
